Red Cabbage with Bacon and Apple

Red Cabbage with Bacon and Apple


  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 apples
  • 2 slices of bacon
  • 1 red cabbage
  • 250ml cider or apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • pepper to taste
  • nutmeg to taste


Slice an onion and fry in butter with a peeled and chopped eating apple and 2 rashers of streaky bacon until soft. Add a sliced red cabbage and about 250 ml of cider or apple juice, plus a tablespoon of cider vinegar. Season with black pepper and a grating of nutmeg. Simmer on a really low heat for 1-2 hours until well cooked and melting. Add salt and a dash of cider vinegar to taste.
