Aloo Chaat

This popular Indian snack, with sweet, spicy and tangy flavours, is made with potatoes


  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp ginger, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder or more if you like it spicy
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 4 tbsp nylon sev (crunchy chickpea noodles)
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate seeds
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice


  1. Boil poatoes until 'al dente'. Leave to cool completely
  2. Add oil to a pan and heat. Add ginger and green chili
  3. Add potatoes and saute on high heat until golden and a little crisp
  4. Add the chili powder, chaat masala powder, salt and cumin powder. Mix well.
  5. Add lemon juice and check the flavour. Adjust spices and salt to taste. Mix well.
  6. Transfer to a serving plate. Add coriander leaves, crushed nylon sev and pomegranate seeds and serve
