Description

Soda bread is a great, fast bread as it doesn't need to prove. Delicious warm, straight out of the oven!

Ingredients

250 g
Wholemeal Flour
100 g
Plain flour
50 g
coarse oatmeal
1 t
bicarbonate of soda
1 t
sugar
1
egg
300 ml
Buttermilk

Instructions

1.    Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C and lightly flour a baking tray.
2.    Crack the egg into a big mixing bowl. Add the buttermilk and a pinch of salt (1/2 teaspoon) and whisk.
3.    Add the flour mix and stir together with a spoon. Once it starts to come together, use your (clean) hands to pat and bring the dough together. Shape the dough into a round ball, place on your baking tray and flatten to a disk, 6 to 7cm thick. Score a cross in the bread then bake for 50 minutes, until a firm crust has developed.
